Apple’s RTP Campus Construction on Hold Until 2027

Apple has announced a four-year pause on the development of its $552 million campus in Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina. The project, originally slated to be completed by the end of 2031, is being delayed as the company extends its construction timeline. Despite the pause, Apple has added around 600 positions in the Raleigh area since announcing the RTP campus in April 2021. The company remains committed to developing the new campus and currently leases office space at the MetLife campus in Cary while owning a building in Durham. Governor Roy Cooper expressed confidence in Apple’s future in the Triangle, and Apple has stated it will not seek taxpayer benefits during the delay. The company’s job development investment grant from North Carolina, valued at up to $845 million in payroll tax benefits, is contingent on meeting specific hiring and investment targets over the coming years.
