There is an alternative way to increase your website traffic and this one is free: use social network sites! I am not only talking about Facebook and Twitter here! There are a lot of different social network sites out there and they can help you increase traffic to your website.

Facebook and Twitter

I’m hoping you already have a Facebook fan page for your business and know how to use it well! If not, you will find all you need in Wayne Kessler’s article: How to Use Facebook for Business: A Complete Guide for A to Z.

If you don’t have a Twitter account yet, you should set up one right away. Twitter is great to develop your network and to attract people to your webpage but you should follow some simple rules!

First of all, if your Twitter account is for business, don’t get TOO personal… don’t share what you ate last night with your followers, they don’t really care. Second of all, always answer to @Mentions. If someone is taking the time to talk to you directly, that’s the least you should do! Finally, like I said, Twitter is great to attract people on your webpage but don’t spam your followers with links! Social bookmarking on Social Network Sites

Now that you have accounts on the most popular social network sites, you should think about some other sites that are good for your business: like social bookmarking websites. Social bookmarking websites are not for networking like Facebook and Twitter. They are mostly used to generate new traffic and to build back links to your website, which help for your site’s ranking on search engine. There are several bookmarking websites but you should concentrate on the popular ones: Digg.com, Delicious.com and Stumbleupon.com.

Once you have created your account on those sites, you are ready to share links that are leading to your website. The social bookmarking pages are more efficient if you have a blog (or if you update/change your website content often) because in that case, you can share every new post and use more specific keywords for each of them, depending on their topic.

If you post a new article every 2 or 3 days on your website, social bookmarking will work great for you!

Digg.com and Delicious.com

Digg and Delicious are very similar. They work the same way: you enter the URL you want to bookmark and this URL will be displayed on a main page where all the new bookmarks are. Then other users can vote for your link if they like it.If they do, your link will become popular on the site. Even if people don’t really vote for your link, some of them will click on it for sure. Just make sure you tagged the right keywords!

Stumbleupon.com

Stumbleupon is a little bit different. You still share a link and people are voting for it but when you click on Stumble Your Interest, you see actual websites. So when you submit your URL, you are sure your website will be displayed on some people’s computer screen! If you have a great design and killer content, you’ll easily win some new followers! Stumbleupon is also quite fun and addictive!

Don’t forget that building a strong traffic to your website can take some time. However, if you follow those tips, you will start notice a difference within a month… or 2 weeks if you post everyday!

Five Awesome Tips for Facebook Statuses

There has always been a bit of a downside to Facebook, and that is the lack ofFacebook status tricks customization. You can’t really pimp out your profile in the way you could other social media sites, such as the barely functioning (but still  very sparkly) Myspace. Though that seems to be the usual case with anything that could be dubbed as a real-time updating platform. Twitter is certainly the same way, and in fact looks a lot more rough than Zuckerberg’s social phenomenon.

But just because you can’t add endless annoying graphics and tons of music players with attached videos to an already cluttered profile, doesn’t mean you can’t personalize it a bit. Symbols and Emoticons

Facebook has always limited the number of symbols that are compatible with chat and status messages.  But they did provide a list of 20 symbols that could be inserted, including smileys, a heart, and a few other choices. A few of them have codes that can be made with different keys. But others can be copy/pasted where you want them.

Sometimes there is something you want to say that just isn’t welcome to everyone. This is especially true now that parents, grandparents, teachers and coworkers have broken the unwritten rules of Facebook and added us to their lists. This is enough to make anyone nervous, and can cause some tension when we happen to say something we wished someone hadn’t seen.

But you can actually hide your status from certain people. All you have to do is click on the lock that appears under the box when you begin to update your status. It will bring up the options, including “Hide This From…”. From there, you can select the people you don’t want to see your message. Sneaky? Yes. Awesome?  Absolutely.

It’s easy: just put in @ before beginning to type their name. A selection box will appear beneath, and from there you will be able to scroll down and select the right person. Click on the name and they will appear in the status wit an active link. Post the rest as you normally would, and you’re done!

For those marketers out there, or just those who like to be precise with their timing, there is LaterBro.com. It is an application that works on both Facebook and Twitter, and allows you to work it by signing in as a third party app from your profile. This means no registration, though it does share your profile details.

Profile Redirect Trick

Do you like playing the old bait and switch? If so, there is one trick you can’t miss. There is a standard URL code that will take whoever clicks it to their own profile. The URL is “http://facebook.com/profile.php?=73322363”, and if you click it now you will find yourself directed to your own page.

You can use this for some fun antic when tricking your friends. For example, you could post it with a status message like: “Oh God, I can’t believe this guy…what a nerd! http://facebook.com/profile.php?=73322363.” If you have unclicked the preview box before posting, your unsuspecting friends will click the link and BAM! They are staring at their own face. Classic!

7 Effective Tips to the Perfect Facebook Ad

facebook adsIt seemed as if it was just yesterday where Google seemed to be the biggest PPC player on the market.  Today, that isn’t the case with social media growing like a weed in your garden!  Whether you’ve been advertising on Facebook for a year or so now or maybe you want to test it out for the first time, I wanted to give you some pointers that I have used to create the perfect Facebook ad.

#1 Know your audience – With the power of Facebook, you can narrow down your audience to the tee.  If you want a 47 year old grandmother from Ohio only, you can get this.  This is why it is so important to only show the ads to people that would be interested in your service.

#2 Split test your ads – When you’re prepared to write up some Facebook ads, like any other PPC platform, I would recommend that you create at least 5-10 ads. You’re going to want to rotate the pictures, the wording and more.  By split testing, you will find something that works for you.

#3 Cheat – This sounds silly, but look at the ads that are showing up in your Facebook feed right now.  What do you like about them?  What don’t you like about them?  There’s a good chance that these people are running these Facebook ads for a reason.  While I don’t encourage you to click on the ads, I would just recommend you keep an eye on what shows up.  A great place to see a load of ads is by following this link: http://www.facebook.com/ads/adboard/

#4 The picture is worth a 1,000 words – You’ve heard of this old saying before, right?  The picture is everything when it comes down to a Facebook ad.  Believe it or not, but I read something in the past that said that a close up of a person’s face works the best.  While it may not work for you, it’s worth a shot in one of your ads!

#5 Timing is everything – Even though you can target your audience, you may find that your Facebook ads convert better at a certain time of the day.  What you’re going to want to do is make sure that you keep a close eye on when these conversions are occurring. You may be surprised that a lot of them happen during a certain point of the day.

#6 Offer an incentive – Why the heck should I click your ad?  I see thousands of advertisements during the day, and I barely want to click on any them.  You’re going to want to give the person a reason to click your Facebook ad.  Whether it’s a free coupon, a free item, or maybe a free membership, you’re going to want to something to get them to take action.

#7 Test with CPM – I have found that testing with CPM is the best because you’re going to pay per 1,000 impressions rather than clicks.  This way, if you get a 1,000 clicks or nothing at all, you’re going to pay the same price.  This is a great way to start off so that you don’t have to worry about your budget.

Tracking your Facebook ads are key, so make sure you have some sort of analytics package installed so that you know where your traffic is coming from, at what time, and if they are converting.  The more you know, the better your campaign can become.  Good luck!
